Cherish Your Lips

Cherish Your Lips

Why go completely bare when you can opt for natural beauty? There are numerous natural and organic lipsticks available that cater to your beauty needs without compromising your health.

Bold, luscious lips adorned with vibrant red lipstick have long been seen as a symbol of allure and femininity. However, the very product that helps us achieve that glamorous, Hollywood look may also pose health risks.

Recent findings have highlighted the presence of harmful toxins in lipsticks, revealing an ironic reality.

A study conducted by The Campaign for Safe Cosmetics in October 2007 discovered that many lipsticks contain concerning levels of lead. Alarmingly, one-third of these lipsticks surpassed the US Food and Drug Administration’s safety limit of 0.1 parts per million (ppm) for lead in candy. Lead is a toxic element that can adversely affect the nervous system and brain development, particularly in children.

Makeup applied to the lips is not only ingested but also absorbed through the skin. In addition to lead, the cosmetic industry utilizes an estimated 10,000 chemicals in lipstick formulations. Some of these include butylated hydroxytoluene (linked to cancer risk in some studies), nylon-6, titanium dioxide, coal tar dyes, fragrances, and petroleum products. Alarmingly, 89% of these chemicals have not been assessed for human safety. It’s wise to steer clear of lipsticks containing any of these hazardous ingredients.

Are you ready to swap your traditional lipstick for a more eco-friendly option?

Naturally Chic Smackers

You may feel the urge to discard all your lipsticks, but there’s no reason to go completely bare—choosing natural options is a great alternative! Plenty of natural lipsticks are available that fulfill your beauty needs while prioritizing your health.

Replace your chemical-laden lipsticks with natural ones enriched with beneficial ingredients. Seek out products featuring moisturizing oils (like jojoba oil), plant waxes, and nourishing butters (such as shea butter). Local health food stores often stock organic lipsticks in beautiful shades derived from natural mineral pigments. While these natural options may be slightly less accessible than conventional drugstore varieties, the benefits outweigh the effort.

The next time you apply a daring red lipstick, remember to consider both your beauty and your health. By choosing an organic lipstick, you can enjoy your beauty routine without the worry of harmful chemicals. Embrace the knowledge that you are making a savvy choice for your lips and for your overall well-being—you adore your lips, but your health is your true priority.
